Everest region is already world-renowned with scenic views of mountains and unique culture. Among the various trails in the region, Gokyo Lake Trek provides a stunning perspective of the Khumbu region. The trek heads to the beautiful Gokyo Lakes through Sherpa villages like Namche and Machhermo. The trip takes 13 days to complete and starts in Kathmandu. Firstly, you head to Lukla on a flight and start to trek. The trekking trail heads north towards Phakding and enters the Sagarmatha National Park. You head towards Namche Bazaar and continue to Phungi Thanga. The trail deviated from the classic Everest Base Camp trail and continues north all the way to Gokyo village. Then, you spend a day at the village and hike to the top of the Gokyo Ri (5360m). Here, you can relish the views of the mountains like Cho Oyu (8201m), Mt. Everest (8848.86m), and other peaks in the Mahalangur range. Likewise, you can also explore the Gokyo lakes and Ngozumpa glaciers.

On average, you need to walk 6 hours daily but, in some parts, it may be less than that because the trail gets easy. Throughout the trek, you get to visit many Sherpa villages like Namche Bazaar, Phungi Thanga, and Dhole.

To get the best views, spring and autumn are the perfect seasons to visit. Thus, these seasons also offer the best trekking experience. The trek is relatively difficult, and you need to be in good physical shape. Also, it is better if you have previous experience in trekking.

Day 1: Arrival at Kathmandu Airport

Your arrival in Kathmandu will be marked by landing at the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). A company representative of Trinetra Holidays will receive you and transfer you to your hotel. Evening you can meet the participants and the trek members. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 2: Fly from Kathmandu to Lukla and trek to Phakding (2610m) 3-4 hours. (B/L/D)

After you have your breakfast, you will drive to the airport to embark on Lukla. The breathtaking views of mountains and rivers will make the approximately 40 minutes’ flight remarkable before landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport, named after the pioneer invaders of Everest. After necessary arrangements/rearrangements, you will start heading towards Phakding which is reached at about 3-4 hours of moderate walking.

Day 3: Trek from Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3446m) 6-7 hours. (B/L/D)

Following a trail through pine forest and crossing few suspension bridges, you will arrive at a small settlement called Benkar which is the gateway to Sagarmatha National Park. After necessary formalities, you will continue towards Namche Bazaar, the major market of the Everest region, which teems with shops and hotels of diverse standards.

Day 4: Acclimatization Day Visit Khumjung Village, Hotel Everest View (3880m). (B/L/D)

Today is acclimatization day in Namche so, that your body can be acclimatized according to high elevation. It is also the preparation day before purse to further high elevation. we will go for a hike to Hotel Everest view where you can view the panoramic scenes of the Khumbu region. On the way to Everest view hotel, you can explore the local community and their lifestyle.

Day 5: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Phungi Thanga (3246m) 5-6 hours. (B/L/D)

Today, the trail climbs steeply out of the valley through rhododendron forest, juniper and large conifers start to appear as the elevation increases making trekking beautiful in spring. The trail passes through Yak Kharkas and summer settlements. The views of Ama Dablam, Khumbi La, and Tawache are magnificent throughout the day. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 6: Trek from Phungi Thanga to Dhole (4110m) 5-6 hours. (B/L/D)

Morning after breakfast at Phungi Thanga we continue our trek to Dhole by the same route to Base camp. You will get a chance to see panoramic views of various mountains, rhododendron, and birch forest with hanging mosses and lichens.

Day 7: Trek from Dhole to Machermo (4465m) 5-6 hours. (B/L/D)

After a walk in wonderful landscapes, you arrive above Machermo which is a small settlement in a wide side valley. Machermo is also known as the home of a rescue post. You will see the native birdlife and marvel at the mountain flowers, enjoying views of Cho Oyu to the North.

Day 8: Trek from Machermo to Gokyo (4790m) 5-6 hours. (B/L/D)

Machermo peak (6237 m) climbing is a challenging trekking peak located in the Everest region, on the way to Gokyo lake which is open for climbing under Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA). Gokyo lakes are populated with amazing high-altitude ducks. Before Gokyo, there is a Chautara (resting place) covered with prayer flags and Gokyo village can be seen from here.

Day 9: Sunrise excursion to Gokyo Ri to Machermo Base Camp (4465m) 6-7 hours. (B/L/D)

You will start your day early by climbing up to the top of Gokyo Ri which have stunning views of the upper Gokyo Valley, The massive Ngozumpa glacier, and a panoramic view of the Khumbu Himalayas like a view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Makalu, Cho-Oyu and many more. After wonderful views in Gokyo, our trek finally descends down to Machermo Base camp.

Day 10: Trek from Machermo Base Camp to Namche Bazaar (3440m) 6-7 hours. (B/L/D)

The Morning after breakfast at Machermo Base Camp we walk down about 6-7 hours to reach the Namche Bazaar, you can enjoy a glimpse of the Everest region and its surrounding. you can also get a chance to explore the Sherpa culture throughout the trail.

Day 11: Trek from Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2860m) 7-8 hours. (B/L/D)

This day trekking trail follows a sandy path with a strenuous walk. The trail is full of picturesque views of the landscape and some mountain scenarios. You can explore Lukla Bazaar and shop local items there. You can celebrate your successful trekking there in Lukla with special brands of drinks. Evening time offers you to visit the surrounding area before we stay overnight in Lukla.

Day 12: Flight from Lukla to Kathmandu 40min. (B/D)

On this day, you fly to Kathmandu in the morning. This short and scenic flight possibly makes you feel nostalgic because of the glimpses of snowy mountains through a private window of the plane. You will be transferred to the hotel where you either have leisure time or you may catch the last moments exploring the sights of Kathmandu.

Shopping in the market is another best option. In the evening, we have a farewell dinner at an authentic Nepalese restaurant with a cultural performance.

Day 13: Departure to Airport. (B)

A representative from Trinetra Holidays will take you to the airport, approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. On your way home you'll have plenty of time to plan your next adventure in the wonderful country of Nepal.
